A CHARITY has been given a grant of £10,000 to support people suffering from dementia, their families and carers.
The Lloyds TSB Foundation grant will allow Alzheimer's Society Derwentside to employ an information and education worker.
The successful candidate will play a key role helping to raise awareness about dementia. They will also work in the wider community, including GP practices, to help deliver the branch's services to meet local needs.
Terry Coyle, branch administrator for the society, said: "With over 100 people benefiting from our services each year and with nearly 50 new referrals in the last 12 months our services are in huge demand, and now with this generous grant from Lloyds TSB Foundations we can continue to offer a comprehensive service to everyone."
The independent Lloyds TSB Foundation has £22.5m to distribute to registered charities in the country this year, with over £1.1m for charities in the North-East.
