A SEMINAR to help employers tackle the problems of drug and alcohol misuse in the workplace has attracted 11 businesses.

The session was organised by Hambleton Community Safety Partnership and took place in Northallerton.

It was aimed at small to medium-sized businesses and partnership officers hope it encourages them to introduce robust drug and alcohol policies in their organisations.

Senior community safety officer Patricia Thornton said: "Drugs and alcohol misuse is becoming an increasing issue for employers in the UK.

"Increasing and widespread availability of alcohol and illegal drugs can lead to experimental, recreational and dependent use which, in turn, may affect an individual's ability to do their job."
