EVENTS recalling wartime sights, sounds and memories will feature in local history month.
Talks, demonstrations, displays and a coffee morning will be held at Durham's Clayport Library throughout May and into June.
The programme begins with a display of photographs from the Clayport Local History collection, depicting life in the county during the Second World War. The display runs from Tuesday to May 27.
Children from Durham schools will visit the library, including a party from Laurel Avenue Primary School, who will hear stories from older library users about their wartime experiences.
A slide show presentation of rarely seen views of Durham Cathedral will be given by Janet Thackray, a steward at the Cathedral, on Saturday, May 7, at 2pm.
Tickets, costing £2, are available from the library.
The wartime theme is resumed on Tuesday, May 10, when the library stages a VE Day coffee morning, from 10am to noon.
Library staff will be dressed in period costume, with a display of wartime photographs, and books.
All events are supported by the Historical Association, which promotes local and community history.
Full details of the events are available from the library by calling 0191-386 4003.
