A PARADE to mark the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe could be the biggest of its kind in the North.
South Tyneside Borough Council's commemoration in South Shields, South Tyneside, is on May 15 at St Hilda's Church, in the market place.
A procession will involve representatives from the council, the Army and the fire service.
It will be supervised by Warrant Officer Dave Hannan, of the Coldstream Guards, who is the Drill Sergeant at the Army Foundation College, in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
The service will also remember the gallantry of local man John Simpson Kirkpatrick, who saved many lives during the Gallipoli campaign. He was killed by a sniper 90 years ago.
Serving and former service personnel have been invited to the ceremony. To attend, call Arthur Lockyear on 0191-444 1272.
