A TEAM of young designers has won £500 at the semi-final of the region's biggest design competition.
Pupils from St Cuthbert's Primary School, Crook, beat off competition from eight other schools at the teamwork stage of the Futures Challenge with their innovative recycling ideas.
The Crook team's winning designs involved turning old carpets into cavity wall insulation and old buttons into jewellery.
At the final, which will be held on July 1, the pupils will go head to head with Burnopfield Primary School, near Stanley, for a chance to win a further £800.
Both teams will work with Metnor Property Group to design the environmentally-friendly homes of the future.
