Warriors go into battle at a County Durham fort on Monday.
Living history group The Northumbrians take up the cudgels at Binchester Roman Fort, near Bishop Auckland, which reopens for the summer season today.
The group will be demonstrating what life was like at Binchester after the Romans left in about AD410.
The fort continued to be used by the Angles, more commonly known as Anglo-Saxons, for several centuries and visitors can see how they made their clothes and household wares, and fought their battles with swords and battle axes.
Now owned by Durham County Council, Binchester stood guard over Dere Street, the main Roman highway linking York, Corbridge and Scotland.
It is 1 miles north of Bishop Auckland and is signposted from the A690, the A688 and Bishop Auckland town centre. Admission costs £2/£1 concessions.
