PENSIONERS in Darlington are feeling the benefit of a new advice service campaign.
The town's Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB) says a scheme designed to encourage people to claim all the benefits they are entitled to has got off to a flying start.
In its first month, the Over-75s Project has helped more than 50 people by providing a free benefits check. More than £25,000 in extra money has been claimed.
Darlington CAB manager Sue Stahl said: "Many of the over-75s fail to claim their entitlements, especially those with disabilities.
"A chat with one of our over-75s advisors will soon show if the entitlement exists.
"Claiming this benefit can increase income substantially and help with other payments, such as housing and council tax benefit, and pension credit."
The CAB will soon have a base in doctors' surgeries across the town, offering extra advice to patients.
Anyone who is over 75, or relatives or carers, can contact the CAB advice line on (01325) 256477.
