The Readers Durham County League: Australian Jim Allenby, who only just failed to make a century on the opening day, produced another polished innings as Brandon made it two wins out of two narrowly defeating Kimblesworth.

Allenby hit four sixes and six boundaries for 63 and Dean Storey contributed 38 to the modest total. Nigel Darling proved particularly economical in the Kimblesworth attack conceding only 15 runs in 11 overs for three wickets.

Darling then almost swung the result in his side's favour. He went in at number 10 and was last out after hitting four sixes in 38. Kimblesworth ended on 143-9, leaving Brandon winners by six runs. Allenby also shone with the ball and his maximum 12-overs spell cost just 23 runs while Darren Card and Storey both claimed three wickets.

After a first-day defeat, champions Evenwood paraded their new West Indian professional Rayad Emrit and won by six wickets at Crook Town.

It was David Wilkinson and Billy Teesdale though who shone in the attack sharing seven wickets as the home side realised 144 for nine in their 45 overs.

Andrew Guy (38) and Richard Manuel, whose 35 included six boundaries formed a productive partnership for the second wicket. Emrit opened Evenwood's reply but it was Teesdale with 35 and John Maughan (33) who produced most of the runs as victory was secured with almost five overs remaining.

Michael Hayton gave a man-of-the-match performance leading Ushaw Moor to a handsome victory at home to Willington. He opened the innings scoring 38 while Craig Usher and Paul Maddison both made 31 in the formidable total of 185-7.

Hayton then claimed 4-15 and Scott Nattrass 3-42 as Willington were sent back with little more than three figures on the board.

Mainsforth racked up the highest score of the day before going on to defeat Hylton by 32 runs. Gary Purcell and John Cavanagh both made half centuries and John Sweeney added 30 to the total of 196-6. Although there were some useful contributions Hylton never threatened as Australian Sam Hogg posted the excellent figures of 4-20 and Cavanagh added to his batting performance with three wickets.

Eddie Watson and Ahmed both took three wickets at economical cost as Shildon were restricted to only 136-9 which included a half century by Cameron Pearce. David Lawlor then hit 54 and his opening partner John Carmedy made 28 as Esh Winning enjoyed their second win, this time by a margin of eight wickets.

* West Indian Sewrarine Chattergoon smashed eight sixes and 17 fours in a whirlwind innings of 153 not out when Tudhoe stormed to a 157 runs win in a re-arranged game with Langley Park yesterday. He shared a first wicket stand of 114 in 23 overs with Simon Davies whose 57 included two sixes and nine boundaries. Tudhoe posted the formidable total of 280-4 in just 45 overs and then dismissed the home side for only 123.
