THOUSANDS of people from all over the country travelled to the North-East this weekend for one of the most highly-rated orchid shows in the country.
More than 2,000 people visited Raby Castle, near Barnard Castle, County Durham, for the event. It is the fifth time that the castle has hosted the show and organisers have hailed it as a huge success.
Hardy outdoor orchids were this year's theme and experts were available to advise visitors how to grow the bloom in their own gardens.
Catherine Turnbull, from Raby Castle, said: "The show really has been a huge success with growers and enthusiasts travelling from all over the country.
"We were delighted to welcome the Hardy Orchid Society this year.
"The show would not be such a success without the growers, nurseries and the local societies who attend. They really do make the show."
