COUNCILLORS have backed the merger of two development agencies in a move to bring prosperity to two Durham dales.
The boards of Wear Valley Development Agency and the Teesdale Enterprise Agency have already supported the merger, which was agreed by Wear Valley District Council on Thursday.
Teesdale's chief executive Shaun Stuart has been in charge of both organisations since Paul Robinson left Wear Valley last year.
A report from Wear Valley's regeneration director, Bob Hope, said the merger should go ahead because a larger organisation would offer a wider range of higher quality services.
