A TERRIFIED pensioner escaped to a neighbour's house after a hammer-wielding intruder forced his way into her home.
The 83-year-old woman had been sitting outside her house, off Eston Road, in Lazenby, Redcar, at about 3.15pm on Sunday, when she was approached by the man.
He demanded money before producing a hammer from his jacket.
She ran inside her home and tried to shut the door. As he forced his way in, the woman ran off to raise the alarm.
The intruder was between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in and slim.
He wore a navy blue anorak. which was zipped up over his face.
Witnesses are asked to call Cleveland Police on (01642) 452323.
