SKIPPER Matt Clarke last night insisted he and the rest of his Darlington team-mates owe it to themselves to repay fans for their support this season with the right result against Cheltenham on Saturday..

Quakers were edged out of the play-off zone by Northampton at the weekend after they were held to a goalless draw by Lincoln City.

Northampton's win at Chester moved them level on points, but with a two-goal advantage over Quakers.

The weekend Quakers end their league campaign against mid-table Cheltenham, while Northampton play host to relegated Kidderminster.

And, while Northampton hold the ace card in the race for a play-off place, Clarke sees Saturday's game as an opportunity to prove to fans that they can rise to the big occasion.

In December Quakers' biggest crowd of the season - 7,028 - watched Rochdale record a 3-0 win at the Williamson Motors Stadium. And to mark the opening of the North Stand in March, 6,972 watched Quakers succumb to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Kidderminster.

"Hopefully we will get a big crowd on Saturday and they will get behind us," said Clarke.

"We've let them down on too many occasions this season and it's about time we give them the performance and result they deserve.

"We will be giving 110 per cent and hopefully they will have three more games to look forward to after that."

Clarke also paid tribute to the 1,390 Quakers fans who made the trip to Sincil Bank at the weekend.

"The fans were absolutely brilliant at Lincoln and it was just a shame that we couldn't give them the result they wanted," said Clarke.

""The support we've had away from home this season has been staggering.

"They've been a like an extra man to us at times."
