Don't miss out on rates relief
SMALL firms and rural businesses are urged to make sure they do not miss out on a relief scheme for business rates. Since last month, people running small businesses are entitled to a 50 per cent reduction, if their rateable value is below £5,000. Smaller savings are available for business premises with rateable values of up to £9,999.
DAIRY SALE: About 400 jobs were under threat last night, as the UK's largest regional dairy business looked likely to be sold. Midlands Co-operative Society said its dairy lacked the firepower to compete with bigger rivals and has agreed to sell the Birmingham plant and other depots to St Ivel Gold group Dairy Crest.
