LAST year's charity shield between Arsenal and Manchester United has helped to raise £2,750 for disabled adults.
The money from the match is shared out by the Football Association. Scarborough Football Club, who played Chelsea in last season's fourth round, nominated the Wilf Ward Family Trust as one of a number of potential beneficiaries.
The charity helps adults with learning and physical disabilities across North Yorkshire.
Paul Chaplin, area locality manager with The Wilf Ward Family Trust, was presented with a cheque by Scarborough FC's president, John Birley, before an annual trust football match held at the McCain Stadium.
Mr Chaplin said: "This is a fantastic donation from the Football Association and I'm really grateful that Mr Birley put us forward to benefit.
"We have lots of service users and staff come to every home game and we sell loads of season tickets every year. It's nice to see the support we show a great football club is being rewarded."
Mr Birley said: "We applied on behalf of several worthwhile causes in the area for the money and we were very successful in our bids.
"The Wilf Ward Family Trust are strong supporters of this club, and have been for many years, and we believe they fulfil a very worthwhile role in our society.
"We are really pleased that they have received so much and I'm sure it will be used well."
