A VE Day commemoration will be staged 60 years after the end of the Second World War in Europe, in the grounds of a regimental museum at the weekend.
Durham Light Infantry Association has organised Sunday's free VE Day picnic, which will feature military and brass bands, entertainment, children's amusements, ice creams and a refreshment tent with licensed bar.
It will be staged in the grounds of the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery, at Aykley Heads, Durham, from 11am to 4pm.
It includes free entry to the museum and art gallery, with free parking at nearby County Hall.
Meanwhile, the Bands and Bugles of the Light Division will give a free performance to mark the anniversary at Durham Cathedral at 7.30pm tomorrow.
It features popular regimental marches, light serenades, hymns and performances by soloists James Lancelot, the cathedral organist, and trombonist Brett Baker, as well as a selection of wartime songs.
Tickets are available on 0191-386 5496, or from the tourist information centre, in the Gala Theatre complex.
