A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy devastated by the suicide of his teenage brother has been joined by his young cousin in a drive to launch a wristband to help promote the Samaritans.
The children, who came up with the idea following the death of 19-year-old Daniel O'Hare on Easter Bank Holiday Monday, have won the full backing of their community.
Residents of Great Lumley, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham, have rallied around the grieving family and have already raised £6,000 toward the wristband project.
Daniel's younger brother, Matthew Smith, and cousin Sarah O'Hare, 12, hope to see 20,000 wristbands produced, with the help of the Samaritans. It is also hoped the region's top football teams and local teams will back the campaign.
The green and white band will carry their slogan If U Care Share.
Matthew said: "I just wanted something good to come out of what has happened. I do not want anyone else to go through what I have been through."
Sarah said: "We wanted to help other people so they know they have someone to talk to."
Her mother, Julie Garner, said: "Daniel loved football, was very family orientated and had lots of friends. They were devastated.
"This project has been a focus for the children and something positive to come out of his death."
