HELMSLEY councillors are so keen to see improvement in cutting the market town's verges and open spaces that they want to take over the job.
The town council has agreed that the responsibility is likely to involve it subsidising the work, says town clerk John Dale.
Mr Dale said it was hoped that in future the number of cuts would double to 12 a year.
"Our verges and open spaces are a great part of Helmsley's character and its image is important to our tourists," said Mr Dale.
