HISTORY students have seen their efforts rewarded after they put pen to paper for a college contest.
Fifteen students entered The James Barningham history essay competition held at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington.
They wrote on a range of topics, from the 13th Century Mongols to the Gulf War.
The first prize of £80 went to second year student Lisa Herdman, whose essay was on the 16th Century revolt of the Netherlands.
First year students took the second and third places. Bryony Edwards was runner-up and Sam Stockton was third.
Gary Darby, the college's head of history, said: "I'm delighted so many students entered and that the quality of their work was so high."
