The Albany Northern League: Northern League champions Dunston are aiming to set a league first when they go to Bedlington today.

Dunston go into the game with a 39-game unbeaten record in the league, and if they avoid defeat today, will be the first team in the league's history to go unbeaten through a 40 game season.

Blyth were the last team to stay unbeaten throughout a season, when they played 36 games in the 1974-75 season.

Dunston completed a league and league cup double on Wednesday night when they beat Bedlington 7-6 in a penalty shootout in Wednesday's league cup final, and assistant manager Perry Briggs said; "We showed a lot of character to get back into the game in midweek.

"We need to dig deep again for one more result."

However, striker Benn Thompson and defender Mark Taylor are both struggling with injuries, while Bedlington are missing midfielder Tony Chapman.

Peterlee, playing their last game before relegation, will have a squad of 18 players to choose from for their away game at Shildon.

Meanwhile, there is more chaos in the UniBond League, because the play offs for a place in the Northern Conference that were scheduled to start today - Farsley v Whitby and Workington v Prescot Cables - have both been postponed for at least a week.

Farsley thought they were champions last Saturday, but they dropped to third place in midweek when the FA ruled that all the clubs that didn't play Spennymoor should be given three points, and Hyde instead were proclaimed champions.

Farsley have now gone to a firm of sports solicitors and are considering a civil action against the league and the FA and are refusing to participate in the play offs.

There is also a suggestion that Hyde United might be suggesting a no confidence vote in the UniBond League board at the meeting of club chairmen on May 23.
