YOUNGSTERS were whisked off their feet when Bishop Auckland College celebrated Europe Day.
Raul Calderon, a Flamenco dancer from Madrid, wowed his audience with his authentic Spanish steps yesterday as part of the national European Week and Europe Day.
International officer Caroline Tudor said: "The purpose of the week was to give our students a direct feel of European culture.
"It is so easy when you go abroad to keep yourself contained in an English bubble so we are bringing culture to them through food, dance and singing.
"I am especially delighted that we had a Flamenco dancer." Greek, Spanish, Italian and German food, supplied by the catering students, was available to sample, and flags and posters decorated the walls.
College marketing manager Kevin Burns said: "This is an opportunity for the college to celebrate European culture and to taste different foods from around the world.
"We did this last year as a pilot and it was a huge success. This year has been even better." In the nursery, the children entertained their teachers with a French song.
Nursery manager Lynette Scott said: "We like to do things that involve different races, cultures and religion, and they all really enjoy it."
