SOCIAL services chiefs are holding recruitment events across North Yorkshire in an effort to boost their teams of carers.
They said that working with some of the most vulnerable people is a challenging and rewarding experience, and want to highlight the opportunities available.
The department employs more than 3,500 people, about half of them providing home care for older people or people with a disability.
Their aim is to enable people to live as independently as possible. The support they provide ranges from helping people to wash and dress, to helping them prepare a meal.
Corporate director Derek Law said: "Staff who provide personal care at home receive a full package of induction training and have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills while working.
"Contrary to what people may think, most of our staff are not qualified social workers, but they are highly skilled individuals who do a rewarding and essential job."
Recruitment events will be held as follows:
* Monday: 2pm to 4pm, Harrogate library and information centre.
* Tuesday: 2.30pm to 4.30pm, Masham library and information centre.
* Wednesday: 10am to noon, Knaresborough library and information centre.
* Thursday, 10am to noon, Ripon library and information centre.
* Friday, 10am to noon, Pateley Bridge library and information centre; 3pm to 5pm, Springfield Garth, Boroughbridge.
