NURSES have produced a strategy to improve nursing services in north Durham.
The strategy, Nursing Matters in Derwentside, will be launched by Professor Christine Beasley, the chief nursing officer for England and Wales, at the Derwent Manor Hotel in Allensford, on Wednesday.
The strategy, which has taken 18 months to complete, sets out how nursing services will be developed, to ensure the highest standard of nursing care.
It was developed in consultation with nursing staff and members of the public, through a series of events last year - with their views reflected in the strategy document.
Derwentside Primary Care Trust (PCT) patient services and nursing director Helen Tucker said: "We realise that community nursing services need to change in line with the modernisation of the NHS, so that we can provide high-quality services that meet the needs of local people.
"Through involving nurses and local people in the development of the strategy, we hope it will help us to better meet the needs of those who use our nursing services.
Derwentside PCT chairman Peter Innes said: "I am delighted Professor Beasley has agreed to launch our nursing strategy for Derwentside.
"The launch event will give us the opportunity to thank all the staff, patients, carers and members of the public who participated in its preparation."
A copy of the strategy will be available on www.derwentside-pct.nhs.uk
