UniBond League: After 60 people attended a meeting on Friday night Spennymoor United fans have decided to launch a new club run by a supporters' trust.
The meeting, organised by a group of local businessmen at the Brewery Field, talked about plans for the future of the club and the number of hurdles it would have to overcome before Moors can play games again.
A spokesman said: "We were delighted with the turnout and it was a very positive meeting.
"We set up a committee of 14 and there is the possibility of more people taking up places.
"We know we have to move quickly if we want to be playing football next season. We've already spoken to the FA and we need to satisfy them that we can play again, subject to their conditions.
"We also hope to speak to the Town Council this week about the lease for the ground. We're talking of setting up a supporters' trust, because we want the supporters to have a big say in running the club."
If a new club is successfully formed the groups hopes to be in the Northern League next season.
Current owner Benny Mottram has already indicated he will hand over the lease and it is understood he is supporting the new group.
However, the question of the £10,000 fines to the UniBond League has still to be resolved.
The group is hoping to organise another meeting on Friday, again at the Brewery Field, with a representative from Supporters Direct in attendance.
