A VETERINARY nurse has won a £1,000 holiday and a major title.
Penny Blythe, who works for the Wilson Veterinary Group, in Bishop Auckland, was named Veterinary Nurse of the Year by pet nutrition company Hill's.
She has worked at the practice for three years, running educational and support events for pet owners, including puppy parties, dental clinics and weight clubs, giving advice on vaccination and other health issues.
Mrs Blythe, who is married, has been a nurse for 14 years. She has two dogs - Doris and Rio.
She will use her £1,000-worth of travel vouchers for a holiday to Las Vegas and Disneyworld in Florida.
She said: "I love my job and get great satisfaction from improving the welfare of an animal by preventative health, bonding with an owner and looking forward to their visit."
The practice, owned by Paul Wilson, was runner-up in the British Veterinary Hospitals Association building design awards.
It moved into Bishop Auckland's former post office in 2002.
