THE achievements of parents, grandparents and carers who went back to the classroom were celebrated yesterday.
The adults who took part in Darlington Family Learning project have all competed accredited courses with the Open College Network. To mark their success, a ceremony was held at the Kings Head Hotel, where certificates were presented by David Walker, Darlington Borough Council's assistant director for school effectiveness.
Councillor Chris McEwan, cabinet member for children's services, said: "The ceremony was a great opportunity to celebrate the recognition of their hard work and commitment in learning together with their children."
Family Learning provides free courses to mothers, fathers, grandparents and carers, in schools and community venues in town. Courses include literacy, numeracy and arts and crafts.
The aim is to help parents give support to their children with their homework and introduces them to adult learning.
Certificates were presented to families from Borough Road Nursery, Mount Pleasant Primary School, Rise Carr Primary School, Albert Hill Nursery, Skerne Park Primary School, St John's CE School, Heathfield Primary School, Whinfield Primary School and Corporation Road Primary School.
