EMERGENCY rescue volunteers have received a new life-saving defibrillator.
The lightweight machine for re-starting hearts has been purchased by the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team.
Graham Brown, mountain rescue advanced causality carer, said: "The machines are now small enough to take on to the hillside.
"They are vital if someone has a heart attack in a remote location. There's no doubt this machine will save lives."
Half the £4,000 cost of the defibrillator was provided by the Northallerton and Thirsk branch of the British Heart Foundation.
Ken Billings, branch chairman, said: "When someone has a heart attack, it's important they get help within minutes. That's why we are delighted to be able to support groups like the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team."
The donation means the team now has a defibrillator in each of its two vehicles.
The West of Yore Hunt also contributed towards the cost.
Tim Easby, from the hunt, said: "The rescue team operates in the same kind of places that we do, and we feel it's important to give something back to the community."
The rescue team, which has its headquarters in Catterick Garrison, is currently recruiting volunteers.
