A CHARITY is inviting former volunteers to help it celebrate the tenth anniversary of its shop in Consett.
The Derwentside branch of the Alzheimer's Society will hold a buffet at the store, in Newmarket Street, between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday, June 1, during National Volunteers Work.
The branch is inviting people who worked at the shop, along with serving volunteers, to attend.
The shop has raised many thousands of pounds to fund the charity's work helping dementia sufferers and their families in the area.
Volunteer Jennifer Askew said: "I became involved with the branch when my mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
"Volunteering, I hoped, would raise awareness of the illness and the branch, within the community.
"It is a very distressing illness, which affects most families at some time. The branch can be so supportive to those diagnosed with the illness and their families. Being a volunteer for the branch has brought me friendship and a sense of purpose.''
