YOUNG brass musicians are being offered the chance to learn from a Dutch trio.
De Jongens Driest, who create jazz based on world melodies without the use of rhythmic and harmonic instruments, will lead a workshop in Durham, next month.
The workshop, Part of Free Range Music, a project to encourage young brass musicians, will be held in the Studio of the city's Gala Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, June 1 and 2, and on Thursday, June 2, from 10am to 3pm.
On the Thursday evening, participants will join the trio in a public performance at 7.30pm. Admission is free, but making a reservation is recommended.
De Jongens Driest - Janife van Strien, on soprano sax, Arno Bakker on sousaphone and Joop van der Linden on trombone - have been highly acclaimed. To take part, call Rob Guest or Nigel Greenwood, on 0191-301 8245.
Free Range Music is a Durham Brass Initiative project funded by Youth Music. It is part of the 2005 Alive Festival of Music - a year long celebration of music across the North-East.
It gives young brass players new musical experiences and the chance to learn from professional musicians.
