A RACE meeting might have to be cancelled unless power can be restored at a greyhound track following a fire that caused several thousand pounds worth of damage.
Firefighters were called to Wheatley Hill Greyhound Stadium, in County Durham, on Saturday night to tackle a blaze that destroyed a garage and wooden shed.
A car used to flatten the track's sand after races was also destroyed.
Owner Norman Fannon said: "We have no power. There were wires that went over the top of the shed and they will have to be renewed.
"We might lose Tuesday's meeting.
"Kids have broken into the garage and set fire to the car and it set fire to the shed.
"There is a switch on the car and they could not start it, so they have torched it. The car was worthless, but it was doing a job."
Three fire crews were on the scene for two hours. The incident is being investigated.
