A TOWN centre supermarket has been given permission for a structure to separate pedestrians from cars leaving its store in Harrogate.
Waitrose Ltd, which has recently replaced Safeway on the site, in Station Parade, will create a pedestrian access ramp from Victoria Avenue.
Network Rail was consulted on the application to Harrogate Borough Council because the development is close to a deep cutting, carrying the Leeds-Harrogate-York railway line.
A spokesman for the rail company said it wants to approve full details of any major changes to ground levels over the railway before work starts.
"It is important that the stability of the railway formation is not adversely affected by withdrawal of physical support," said the spokesman.
In addition, any illumination on the site, including street lighting, must not conflict with train crews or railway signals.
