RESIDENTS have been urged to make their views known on a proposed new traffic-management scheme for Pickering.
Councillor Mal Danks told the annual town assembly that it was vital to obtain opinions on the list of 70 suggestions put forward to improve the traffic system.
They include pedestrianising the Market Place, building a roundabout at the junction of The Ropery, Eastgate and Vivis Lane, creating better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, and park and ride and park and walk facilities to cope with the growing tourist trade.
Town clerk Andrew Husband said the project team for Pickering was looking into a number of schemes for further research, and a workshop was being held next month to progress ideas.
He said that ten per cent of residents would be consulted in an initial sample and, later in the year, the survey would involve the whole town and its businesses.
But Mr Husband warned that while £150,000 was earmarked for spending in each of the next six years, not all of the favoured options would be feasible.
