A YOUNG woman admitted landing a punch which split her victim's lip in a confrontation on a city centre street.
Emma Louise Moderate, 23, pleaded guilty yesterday at Durham Crown Court to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
It stems from an incident outside the Argos store in North Road, Durham, at about 8.30pm, on February 28.
The court was told that Moderate admitted the charge on the basis that it was a push followed by a single blow.
She said she threw the punch, fearing that the other woman may have been about to confront her.
Judge Richard Lowden adjourned the hearing pending preparation of probation and psychiatric reports on Moderate.
He remanded Moderate, of Lawson Terrace, Bowburn, near Durham, in custody to return for sentence on June 6.
