YOUNG maths wizard Jenna Cave has proved more than a match for older students.
The 14-year-old, a pupil at Durham Johnston School, achieved a gold certificate in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, aimed at sixth-formers. Only three entrants beat her score - and she did so well that she will be taking part in the Maths Olympiad.
She was part of the school's team that made it to the finals of the national Maths Team Challenge, again taking on A-level students, and was awarded a gold certificate for her performance in the Senior Maths Challenge.
Her maths teacher, Danny Swan, said she was the best mathematician he had taught.
"Some of the problems she solved would be beyond many maths teachers, never mind students."
Jenna, of Langley Moor, whose mother, Ruth, teaches maths at the school, also enjoys music.
She plays the piano, violin and recorder and hopes to one day become a primary school teacher
