TEESSIDE teenagers made a splash yesterday as they competed in Hartlepool's first Aquathlon Championships.
The event saw teams of five, representing the town's secondary schools, swim at the Mill House Leisure Centre before completing a running circuit at Summerhill.
It is hoped that the championship, which was organised in conjunction with multi-sport governing body the Triathlon Association, will now become an annual event.
Paul Jackson, Hartlepool Council's school sports co-ordinator, said: "This is a first for Hartlepool and we are delighted to work together in partnership with the Triathlon Association.
"Triathlon requires great endurance and stamina.
"We have a wide-ranging programme to promote sport in our schools and when new opportunities come along like this, it is important that we seize on them."
