COUNCIL bosses in Darlington have unveiled a scheme designed to create jobs in some of the town's most deprived areas.
The borough council's Targeted Assisted Employment project is offering opportunities for employers and job-seekers in the Bank Top, Central, Lascelles, Lingfield, North Road and Northgate wards.
The scheme will assess the needs of businesses and try to match them to people looking for work.
The council will also offer a wage subsidy to employers to help them develop jobs and encourage investment in training for new staff.
David Lyonette, cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: "This scheme will help create jobs which use the skills and experience of those looking for work."
The project aims to build on the success of a similar recent scheme - Darlington Into Work - which helped 161 people find employment.
