A NATIONAL campaign to raise awareness of the impact of excessive noise has won the support of a local authority.
Hambleton District Council is backing Noise Action Week, which is co-ordinated by the National Society for Clean Air (NSCA) and runs from Monday to next Friday.
This year, the week is focusing on dealing with domestic noise problems, such as music, parties, barking dogs, alarms, fireworks and shouting.
Displays will be held at district council offices in Northallerton, Easingwold and Stokesley, and secondary schools have been sent education packs supplied by the NSCA.
The council's head of environmental health and housing, Eric Kendal, said: "We are asking that everyone supports this week of action and consider the noise they make and how it affects others, as well as the noises that disturb them.
"It may not be the loudness of the noise that is the problem, but the time it occurs. In that way, they can act to reduce it. We are encouraging people to be considerate to each other."
