SEVEN police forces in the North-East and North Yorkshire are coming together for a major initiative aimed at taking assets and cash from criminals.
The forces will also work with other agencies, including the Assets Recovery Agency, during Operation Payback, which is launched in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, tomorrow.
Since it began, the Regional Asset Recovery Team (RART) has seized at least £1.9m of criminals' assets and £1.3m in cash.
The initiative is aimed at further targeting the proceeds of crime. Northumbria, Cleveland, Durham, Humberside, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire police forces are taking part in the operation.
The launch will highlight RART plans and successes, including the seizure of £15m worth of suspected illegal proceeds. Much of the money seized is spent on tackling crime.
