A PRIMARY school has been visited by members of the emergency services.
However, the visit to Middleton St George CE Primary School by representatives of the police and fire services was not part of an emergency, but to take part in a citizenship event.
The Citizenship Day on Tuesday featured interactive presentations by the emergency services and the Guide Dogs Association and Sadberge Dogs Home.
The event aimed to explain the role of the emergency services by allowing children to actively take part and experience their work.
The event was organised for the 65 children, aged between seven and nine, by students on the BA (hons) leisure management degree at the University of Teesside.
The students hope that the day will increase the children's understanding of vulnerable people in society and make them more aware of animal welfare.
Danniel Hanafin, 21, a former pupils of Middleton St George School, said: "When we decided to base our event on helping children.
"Middleton St George was the obvious choice. It's nice to give back to the school where I have many happy memories."
