THE elderly residents of Brentwood Lodge in Leyburn are excitedly awaiting some youngsters emerge on the premises.
A blackbird has adopted the basket of a motorised scooter as her nest and is sitting on her eggs beside one of the main thoroughfares of the home.
This has left Roy Watson, 87, without his usual means of transport, but he is not complaining.
He has written Ode from Madam Blackbird and gives updates on progress.
In his ode, the blackbird states: "Now they tell me the scooter owner is a decent bloke and regards the situation as a joke (and) wishes me all the best."
Staff keep the curtain pulled at the corridor window which overlooks her nest to provide her with privacy.
Mr Watson is now waiting to write the most important progress report of all - that her chicks have successfully hatched.
