A MAN was taken to hospital with severe head injuries after he was attacked outside a North-East takeaway.
The 46-year-old North Shields man was beaten up after visiting the Simon Chop Suey House, in Front Street, Chirton, Tyneside, as he headed home. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The incident occurred outside the shop at 11.40pm on Thursday.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Paterson, of North Tyneside Police, said: "We are keeping an open mind as to what exactly happened and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time."
Police are aware that there was a group of youths - up to six - in the area at the time and would like to speak to one of them in particular.
The first is described as white, 6ft, with fair hair, a slim build, aged 16 to 18 and wearing a beige jacket.The other was 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in, with short dark hair and wearing a dark jacket.
