A COUNCIL is introducing bio-fuel to its transport fleet.

All Easington District Council vehicles now run on Bio-Plus Diesel fuel, which costs the same as standard oil, but has reduced greenhouse gas emissions, which will help improve air quality and offers more miles to the gallon.

No modifications to vehicles have been needed for the fuel, which is a mix of 95 per cent mineral diesel and five per cent biodiesel, derived from soy, palm, rape, sunflower and used cooking oil.

George Patterson, Easington council's executive member for the environment, said: "We already purchase the electricity supply for the council's main complex from Npower's renewable energy sources and this new move takes a step further in helping to reduce C02 emissions.
