Police in Middlesbrough are promoting the use of a simple garage lock.
The Garage Defender, which locks the bottom of the up-and-over garage door, has proved to be an effective deterrent in reducing garage crime.
Crime reduction officer Ged Kirkbright said: "This is a simple but very effective way of securing your garage.
"In a recent incident, offenders were unable to gain access to a garage fitted with one.
"Garages are often used for storage and can contain high- value goods. Garage owners with up-and-over doors should consider investing in one."
The locks cost £40 and are available from Middlesbrough Police. For details, call PC Kirkbright on (01642) 303171.
