CATHERINE PATTERSON has gone from being a full-time mother to a teacher, following a series of Learning and Skills Council-funded courses.
Seven years ago, the 38-year-old returned to part-time education, and has now qualified as a learning tutor.
She has started work as an ICT and literacy tutor for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, while continuing with her studies.
She is waiting to begin a Certificate in Education course to help broaden her teaching abilities.
She said: "Since I decided to go back to study, I have really enjoyed the courses I have taken, and it is very rewarding to now be helping others learn the skills I have acquired.
"Skills such as literacy and numeracy can help give new direction to people with all ranges of abilities, and IT skills are essential in most walks of life.
"I feel I have received a great deal of support to get where I am today, and I am now giving something back."
