HUNDREDS of students in North Yorkshire are making the most of a new high-tech study aid to help them with their revision.

With the help of SAM Learning software, teenagers can access a host of revision exercises wherever there is a computer - whether at college, home or an Internet caf.

The aid is part of the Northallerton College website, which allows instant access from anywhere in the world.

Assistant principal of curriculum Alastair Martin said that 217 of the exam school year's 311 pupils had already used the new programme in the run up to GCSEs.

"The students are on there for hours and 75 per cent of the usage has been outside school," he said.

"The system can help them with all their curriculum subjects.

"It tests what they know, marks their answers and gives them feedback on their progress. It provides a new way of revising and helps them organise their thoughts.

"We thought it was a great way of using new technology to help them work in their own way and the students really seem to like it."

Student Graeme Noonan, 16, of Northallerton, said: "I have just started using it for my maths and am finding it a big help."
