A MAJOR programme of road resurfacing will be taking place on routes across North Yorkshire over the next few months.
More than 26,000 tonnes of chippings and 3,500 tonnes of binder will be used on more than 250 miles of road.
Motorists are being urged to take notice of the works and abide by the temporary speed limits.
The county council has invested more than £550,000 in equipment for the high-performance dressing treatment. It is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of the process and minimise disruption during the works and extend the life of the treatment.
Executive member for environmental, services Peter Sowray said: "This process represents excellent value for money. It is approximately a sixth of the cost of other resurfacing techniques and will last for more than ten years.
"It is the most cost-effective means of arresting the deterioration of the road network and restoring its skidding resistance. The speed of the process also allows large areas to be treated very quickly, minimising disruption to the travelling public."
He added: "Motorists have a major role to play in achieving the best results.
"As soon as they see resurfacing activity in the area, they should drive to the indicated speed limits and avoid harsh braking or acceleration.
"This is not only for safety reasons but it also avoids damage to the new surface."
