A MAN was fighting for his life in hospital last night after being repeatedly stabbed in a street disturbance.
Police said the young local victim, who has not been named, was stabbed several times in the chest and torso, in the incident in Blackhall, County Durham.
He was last night in intensive care at Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital, suffering life-threatening injuries.
Police said the incident involved a number of young people at the rear of Middle Street, at 12.30am yesterday.
"The cause is not known at the moment, but people in the immediate area may have witnessed it," said a Durham force spokesman.
Two men arrested after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder were last night helping police inquiries.
