YOUNGSTERS were reminded of the nuisance of noise pollution as part of an environment education event at a North-East beauty spot.
Parties of pupils from 42 schools are taking part in the Eco-Rangers initiative, held over nine days, at Herrington Country Park, a restored colliery site in the shadow of Penshaw Monument, off the A183 Chester-le-Street to Sunderland road.
Designed as a fun, but informative guide to being environmentally friendly, the event yesterday included an anti-noise message.
Experts were on hand to offer advice and information on the problems of noise pollution.
They demonstrated examples using noise recording equipment to reflect the range of complaints received over nuisance neighbours, barking dogs, and the noise created from factory and commercial premises, including pubs and clubs.
Co-ordinated by the National Society of Clean Air Society, with Government backing, the event was staged to mark Noise Action Day.
It is designed to inform people about ways of cutting noise pollution.
