A MAN admitted trying to break into two cars while under the influence of alcohol.

Jason Stuart Eames, 20, admitted interfering with two cars in Hartlepool in the early hours of last Wednesday.

The town's magistrates' court was told yesterday how the unemployed man, of Melrose Street, had been seen trying to break into the cars by members of the public.

He was arrested with a youth, who cannot be named, and admitted the offences.

He told police he knew what he was doing, but had been drinking.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £553 in outstanding fines.
