A 100-year-old polar bear will get a makeover this week.
The stuffed polar bear, known as Peter, is on display in the window of the Curiosity Shop, in Stockton High Street. However the exhibit is showing its age, having lost an ear, and his claws are in need of a manicure.
Tomorrow, a natural history expert will carry out restoration work on the polar bear. The work will take place at the Curiosity Shop - a mobile exhibition which is touring Teesside - and has opened recently in Stockton, between 10.30am and 3pm.
Mark Simmons, audience development manager for Hartlepool's Arts, Museums and Events Service, said: "Peter the polar bear is a favourite with younger visitors to the Curiosity Shop, so such a popular chap needs a bit of grooming to help keep him looking dapper."
The Curiosity Shop's organisers along with Middlesbrough Museums, which own the bear, have arranged for an expert from the Hancock Natural History Museum, in Newcastle, to carry out the work. The shop, which is in Stockton until June 18, also includes the world's smallest cat and dog.
