The future of a non-league football club still hangs in the balance despite a "decent turn-out'' at a meeting for potential committee men.
The existing committee of Albany Northern League side Brandon United in County Durham say they will resign from the competition and fold the club unless they can attract more people to their ranks.
Although the club has no financial problems, it is run by a handful of veterans in their 50s to 70s, who say there is no point in carrying on unless they can assure the club's future by finding new blood to run it.
About 35 people attended the meeting, many offering to help, but the club has received only one firm offer to join the committee. Now the committee is to discuss whether there is a sound enough basis to continue or whether to call it a day.
Chairman Neil Scott said: "There was a decent enough turn-out and offers of help with various things were forthcoming - we appreciate them - but the commitment to join us on the committee didn't materialise.
"I had a couple of phone calls after The Northern Echo article last week and one bloke made a definite offer to come on the committee but he couldn't attend the meeting because of work so we can't gauge his commitment.
"We have to convene another meeting among ourselves to decide what we do next. Do we have got the support to continue?
"We also need some extra sponsorship to keep us going. The social club, which over 15 years has managed to plough £145,000 into the football side of things as well as pay off the mortgage, but at the moment trading conditions aren't allowing it to put money into the football.
"We need to act as soon as possible because the deadline for resigning from the league is Saturday June 4.''
The club has grown from a Sunday League side to winning the Northern League championship two years ago and twice battling through qualifying rounds to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup where it faced Football League opposition
